The Individual Artist Project grant category supports Oakland-resident individual artists producing art activities in Oakland that culminate in a local public outcome for the benefit of the community. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, performances of dance, music or theater, visual art and public art projects, classes and workshops, exhibitions, and literary activities. All grant awardees will receive an award of $4,999.
All arts and cultural activities for which FY 2017-2018 Cultural Funding Program support is requested must occur within the City of Oakland between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. INSURANCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Commercial General Liability and Sexual/Abuse/Molestation Coverage is required for all Cultural Funding grantees. If grant is awarded, the City of Oakland requires that the grantee agree to maintain commercial general liability (CGL) and sexual abuse/molestation coverage, with a limit of not less than $2,000,000 each occurrence. For FY17-18, the Cultural Funding Program will purchase a group policy for all Individual Artist Project awardees to satisfy this requirement.
In addition, Automobile (if using an automobile to perform grant project) and Workers Compensation insurance (if grantee will hire employees for grant project) is required if grant is awarded. A Business Tax Certificate is also required in the name of the Individual Artist being awarded ELIGIBILITY Please carefully review the following eligibility requirements. Artists who have received funds in the Individual Artist Project category for two consecutive years are ineligible to apply for one year (i.e. if you were awarded funds in FY15-16 and FY16-17, you may not apply this year, FY17-18, but may submit an application next year for the FY18-19 funding cycle.)
